HOW TO INFLATE THE THREAD COUNT?

Why do so many sheets have thread counts with such high numbers? In order to get in higher thread count, those brands will use two-ply or multi-ply threads to weave a sheet, multiply it by the number of yarns per thread. Meaning, a 300 TC 3-ply sheet is often marketed as a 900 TC.

A true 300 TC with single-ply yarn can feel far superior to a 1000 TC with 3-Ply yarn.

WHY DOES PLY MATTER TO SHEET?

A yarn is made by twisting individual fibers ( the spinning process).

Multi-ply yarns are made from lower-quality fibers which are twisted together to create a false strength. They’ll be rougher and thicker than the yarn used in single-ply sheets, so fewer of them will fit in a square inch.

Single-ply yarn produces the finest, strongest threads. It can only be made from higher-quality fibers.
